    SEO for pictures?

While everyone is clamouring to be best ranked for sites, what about pictures? Most SERPS have several filter options like blogs, pictures, news etc. And they all link somewhere.
What do you think of targeting picture rankings? Let's say the first page for "dogs" has 10 of your pictures, going back to your site, would that be equal to being ranked #1 for "dogs" for sites?

Matt Cutts does a great video about this. I am sure you will find it interesting.

Becuase I am a new user I can't post a link, but you can go to you tube and after the url type watch?v=3NbuDpB_BTc

I also recommend watching more of Matt Cutts videos.

    Hi,

It's really a cool video from Matt Cutts to know about how to use proper "ALT" to images.

    thanks...

Image optimisation is a very good thing. Do make sure that you name the images with keywords and use title with keywords and also use alt tag for image optimization.

Timely topic and some more great resource links.

Only yesterday I was thinking of ways to optimize and realized that the pictures on one of my "feeder blogs" was hosting images that didn't link back to either the site or the product!

I watched a short video and now they will be clickable and leading back to where they should, with keyword rich terms. The video made this a snap for WP blogs.

    Cheers,

yes so name your image your keyword(s) without stuffing or spamming it, and make sure your alt and title attribute have your keywords in them as well.

Go to flickr type in the keyword you're targeting, see who is on the front page, look at what they did and you do the same.

Go to Google and click on the images tab, rinse repeat

Parineetha: Since nobody else has tried answering your actual question, I'll take a stab at it. We have some image rankings identical with serp rankings, and have seen a lot of difference between the two in several different ways.

#1: we get on average almost 4x as much traffic from the regular serps and from the image search.
#2: the traffic from image search does not convert nearly as well as from regular serps.

    Hope this helps.

I think that's because many visitors coming from the image search only want to "lend" the pictures for their own purposes.
