As a publisher I am sick of Google Adwords, too!

They made some 'improvements' and it all went wrong. I am thinking of starting to accept adverts on my site direct from advertisers.

accept adverts directly on your site or direct from advertisers it can be a good step ahead, but you have to keep in mind that there are also many agencies focused on blogs, niche websites, ecc. Maybe you should talk with them too.

if you are using just search then use content
and if you are already using content then go to the best converting websites that you advertise on through adsense and make a private media buying deal with them. if you are lucky, they have never done this before and you just ask them to put a banner on there website for say $30 a month and try and make a deal. this is good because they will make more money because google isnt taking any of the money and you are skipping the middle man. and you get constant exposure from that website which will make you a lot more money by spending less money

IF I where you I would focus on increasing my page rank. Get listed in Yahoo, and all the other major link directories. Hire a seo specialist to help you optimize the coding on your website. I also suggest you focus on on building organic website traffic.

If you refer to the question of whether or not PPC ads serve to improve the SERP Rank, that has been discussed several times here and elsewhere, with the result that, other than a few anecdotal claims that such does happen, the consensus is that no such effect accrues.
