I want to implement a forum in my website which has 4 static pages and a dynamic contact us page. I would like to implement a forum in my site. Any suggestions as to which is the best free one available.

phpBB is about the most popular.. SMF is also a great solution..

I was going to recommend phpBB as well, mainly because I think more of your visitors are likely to be familiar with its workings. That helps build a comfort level, that I think will help get more participation. I'm not familiar with SMF, however.

Not only does it work great, its FREE, and it has TERRIFIC SUPPORT!
Been using it for years! Much better than the Vbulletin imo.
Only that phpbb is raw and any modules or add ons you install manually.
