change a web page from www.url.com to Keyword.url.com

    Hi,
I am not a computer "tech" person. But I've managed to get some traffic to my site using the SEO techniques I found here.

Now, I would like to add a page to my website that will not start with "www.url.com" but will start with
    "keyword.url.com".

I hope to entice similiar companies around the USA to list on my site without feeling threatened. And if they list, I hope to get reciprocal links back, it will help to increase PR.

    My question is-
    Does google associate the url
'keyword.myurl.com' as being part of 'www.myurl.com.'?

I think I should be concerned about this because I want to lend some of my ranking to this new site. Am I thinking correctly on this?

Do I need to get outside links directly to "keyword.url.com"? I would prefer to get the outsidelinks to "www.myurl.com" and then link to keyword.url.com

I know the best thing to do is to start all over and buy the url that is generic and start with the ranking all over again. But
that is a very timeconsuming and I believe that my content rich site "www.myurl.com" is helping in my list position. And while I could move the content to that new site, it would hurt my local business when I fall out of the listings.

Any suggestions, warnings, clarifications would be very much appreciated

Because I do not know the technical jargon, I may not be making myself clear. So ask me questions to clarify.

    Thank you
    Linda

If you want to do this, find out if your ISP/host allows for Sub-domains.
What keyword.url.com/index.htm really is a top-level directory 'shortcut'. The 'real location' on the server might be www.url.com/keyworddir/index.htm

For example only, on my site,
    http://sounds.vfwds.com/ works
    instead of http://www.vfwds.com/extra/sounds/....

Yes , Google does associate subdomains.
