Question Transfer old domain to new domain name

    Dear All,

Could anyone shed some light to me, as how to proceed with the following issue:
I have a current website live online since december, 2008. I recently purchase a new domain name for this same website. How can I make the transfer to the new domain name, without recreating a new website & re-submitting it to search engines for optimization?
Any advice will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

You have a couple options I just posted this about redirects - hopefully someone will answer But for some basic info there is a lot on htaccess, 301 redirects, and domain forwarding in the IT formums - I can't post a link yet, but it's in the

OK so you registered a new domain and would like to make this new domain your main one correct? and with that, pass along the old domains accrued value to the new one as well?

Hm, I'm not too sure here. At the moment I can only think of really having to go through the whole process again, namely to upload all your site files to the new domain and in the end write 301 redirects from all your old pages to your new ones.

Are you going to be keeping the old domain? I know how you feel, I've gone through this where I've registered a new domain and want to use that instead of an existing one...

I would suggest contacting your host to map the new domain name to your hosting account and then 301 redirect all your old links to your new links using the htaccess file.
I've just done this with my site and it worked perfectly! I would post a link explaining how to add a 301 redirect but haven't posted 10 comments yet - instead just type 301 redirects into google.

Transferring a domain is to transfer domain name from the management under one registrar to another registrar. As a registrar is only responsible for the management of your domain records, this transfer should in no way affect your website, relevant email or DNS.
You need to do the following things to transfer-
    1. Unlock the domain from the old registrar,
    2. Confirm the domain transfer with the old registrar,
    3. Confirm the domain transfer with the new registrar.

If you are determined to use your new domain name, you need to continue to host the old domain, and you need to redirect each and every old indexed page to the new page. This sticky and its resources should provide you with the technical information you need to do that: http://www.webproworld.com/webmaster...evention-Guide. You will also want to contact every webmaster who links to you and request they change the URL to your new domain.

What do you hope to gain from the new domain?
