But, the target audience here is Internet shoppers.

Therefore, those who are "Internet savvy" are precisely those who constitute a more representative sample!

And, just because one reads Consumer Reports does not mean that they are any the more "Internet savvy."

So you are assuming ALL internet shoppers are actually Internet Savvy?

Maybe you have just had better luck with people. I have dealt with many people who are internet shoppers, but are by no means savvy.

i run an ecommerce site and wanted to go with the big guys because i saw their seals around, but they're really expensive. in the end, i looked around for cheaper alternatives and used Validsafe because it's cheaper

This is the seal I really like, the box shaped one at the very bottom of this page, right in the middle,
SSL Certificates and Website Security | Network Solutions

For me I just like the lock and the Million dollar guarantee, and the Site Safe, all positive words. I do not really like seals that have the word Hacker in them, to me it brings negative words to the users mind. A customer wants to think good thoughts when putting in their credit card information, not negative words that remind them the site could get hacked.

I am thinking most people are like me, as long as I see a security seal of some kind, I think most people do no go any further.

Am I off base on this?

    I make no such assumption.

More importantly, I also do not make the assumption that readers of Consumer Reports magazine are any more "Internet savvy" than those who do not.

You are right I did make that assumption.

My point is simple, from experience with many ecommerce websites I do not believe most people actually pay attention to most of these seals.

How many people really know who is HackerSafe or what that really means?

From experience, the only thing that the Internet Shoppers that I have had some kind of contact with, only know the SSL and the other seals are ignored.

The best program and seals is from OnlineTrusted (of course dot com)

Hackersafe was popular as the website visitor understood immediately. When they see McAfee Secure, they think of virus protection.

They also have a great affiliate program for those of you with appropriate websites or lists to market to.

I use Godaddy SSL certificate - very reasonable; I use the authorize.net seal to show my credit card payment authorizer is legitimate; I have the PayPal seal and I have the google checkout acceptance mark.

All of them are on my help and contact pages and since authorize.net takes from 1 -5 seconds or so to load my page, I don't have the seals on my home page.

Instead I created a link in my top and left nav bars that says: trusted site seals and it links to the slower loading contact page.

I really didn't want to do it this way, however, I cannot have my home page load slowly. I don't even stay on it when it does that! lol
