Incoming Links on Google - help please

I have a web site - www.rfidexchange.com which is now listed in Overture (I paid), is in DMOZ, comes up with about 30 listings in Google if you search for the word "rfidexchange", but appears to have no incoming links when I search for link:http://www.rfidexchange.com in the Google search field. I have been trying to get as many incoming links as I can to increase my rating, but if Google doesnt see them, then it will not have much impact.

Anyone know why Google doesnt see any incoming links to this site, and any suggestions on how I can increase the number of incoming links - so far I have been posting in related forums and asking other sites to link to me, but it is a slow process! The site is essentially a portal to other RFID companies listing their RFID capabilities and products and so isnt a natural for incoming links.

    HI Steve
Google is somewhat reluctant to reveal all it knows about links to your site and if you use the link: search will only show you links coming from sites with a TPR of about 4 or higher and even then may not show them all. This is further compounded by Googles slowness the past month or so in updating links and PR, although it appears this was done recently.

If you use this search "+www.rfidexchange.com" you will see something like 245 sites that link to you and though they don't show in the link: search is a pretty safe bet that google is using all or most of them to calculate your PR.

You can find lots of directories that will list you free of charge, a google search for rifd directories or electronics directories should help you find them.

Thanks, Mel - that explains a lot. I noticed that the DMOZ entry wasnt there yet - maybe that is the updating of the Google links that you mentioned. I think I only got into DMOZ relatively recently.

I will follow up on the directory suggestion you mentioned!

Hi Steve there is a tool at the bottom of this page

    http://www.geeksonsteroids.com/linksforhits.htm

That will give you an idea of how many backlinks you have.

That link tool is at the root of my problem - I used it (Marketleap), and it shows 0 links into my site from Google. I am sure I used it a few weeks back and found maybe 30 or so at that point. I guess I am still stuck wondering why this program doesnt show any results.

Is it because it is just a fancy front end to the link: command at Google?

    Not good - 9 in total )-:

I dont understand why the links that are there when you search for the site dont appear in any of the search engines as incoming links.

    Hi Steven
Interestingly if you go to Hotbot and search Google from there with the term link: www.rfidexchange.com it finds 41 links in Google.

Google has not been quite right in its links and PR department for the past month or so, and nothing to do but wait it out.

Yahoo is starting to pick up some of the links - it is now showing 4 links to your site.

    Thanks for all the help!

I have been hard at work visting various directory sites and posting the site details, so maybe that hard work will pay-off in the end!

One last thought on this - has anyone tried using a press release announcing the availability of the site in order to get the site and its content out to journalists who may then put a small entry in their on-line publications? Any recommendations on who to use to send out the press releases and who to avoid?

I think that the problem was also in the use of the terms... if you type exactly: link: www.rfidexchange.com .This will give you 14(or 132 non omitted) results. In general google is can take almost any formats of queries but one thing that I found is that there should not be http:// if you serach for a website.
