    The potential is great.

Right of the bat decide if want the account to very "personal" or very business like.

Even if you opt for personal be careful as with casual microblogging you may become to "loose" and it could haunt you.

You can not edit posts and even those that you erase may not disappear even if you can't see them anymore.

If used correctly and I highly suggest you read up on what to do and not to do cause your 1st Tweet is your 1st interaction with everyone.

You only have 1 shot at 1st impression.

Twitterers don't like to be sold... they want to communicate, or learn or ???

We've just started using it on a LiveSEO project that tweets and blogs about a real time SEO project on one of our ecommerce sites.

find something unique and genuinely useful - and setup a tasteful autoresponder like TweetLater or SocialToo that will let them know that you'd like to have genuine dialogue with them about your industry - but don't sell them in the autoresponder.

There are several e-books on Twitter tips, I'd recommend reading them

I guess I could just sum everything up and say - "Be Genuine"

Relationships take time to develop, and Twitter is a relationship building tool, not an instant checkout line.

Re: Using Twitter to drive traffic.

Having recently launched a new site with a bit of a community feel to it, I've been tempted to look into twitter, but have so far abstained.

Here's the thing... Isn't it the case that Twitter is just a new way of communicating that is enjoying a swell of novelty-based interest at the moment? Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure I could become a fan if given the time, but from what I understand, those who enjoy fame on a Twitter level, are those who would be interesting on any platform... print, radio, tv, blogs, etc, etc.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you or your product or service is, on the whole, uninteresting, why on earth would you think that tweeting, moo-ing or oinking about it is going to make it any more hip?!!

Again, I realise that for cetain people/organisations who enjoy a vaccuum for their information, Twitter may be a great tool. But I wonder how many marketing managers started blogs a few years back to drive tarffic/generate buzz etc, and forgot about them after a few posts.

It seems to me that there is a definate pattern to this kind of behaviour, where something reaches that critical mass of "The New Big Thing". As soon as this happens, people flock to take advantage and the content becomes poor & old hat.

Forgive the waffle... I just belive that unless you have something interesting to say, no platform is going to give you the magnetism you are after. Put a boring guy in an Armani suit & send him to a singles bar - he'll still come out empty handed!

I understand this forum is about SEO, but as engines & behaviour evolves, these things will become much less effective (I think!)...
