My thoughts exactly!
If we all followed lancerush's advice (on this occasion) we would have pages that didn't make any sense to users. However I do think that webnauts' suggestion to try and have your most important keyword at the front of a page's h1 tag (when possible) is useful and probably does add weight to your keyword with the search engines. After all if you are prepared to make that word on of the most prominent words on your page it must be important.
I have enyoyed this post and can tell it was written by a true professional. It seems that it takes a serious amount of time to accrue this knowledge. What is still possible in search engine terms for "amateurs"? I cannot help but assume everybody knows about keywords in terms of on page optimisation, but how do you go beyond this? Link building seems an almost impossible art so is it the only other "thing" us lesser professionals need to grasp?
Keywords have given me another dimension to learn - how to spot tyre kickers, researchers and buyers. This long tail world might just escape the horrendous cheating of link building, but is this just getting hits by working the "supplemental" treasures? What advice could you suggest to a genuine learner in this respect?
