    Does Submission software hurt?

    Hi all,
I hear stories that submitting your web site through submission software is not good enough and that you have to do it manually. (Any idea how long it takes?) I have been using WebPosition Gold for over 3 years now and I have never had any problems with it. I only use it to submit our site and run reports once in a while. Are SE rules on using WebPosition Gold changing and will it hurt my listings if I submit automatically? Can someone tell me what is the fastest way to get your web site indexed?
    Thanks in advance.

The fastest way is to submit your site to directories -- and if you wish manually to a few of the major search engines, or just let the spiders find you.

Submitting using software isn't going to help you a lot, IMO, and it just might hurt in some circumstances. Google says:

Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

Software can help so long as you don't post too often.

    It can hurt if overdone.
It dosen't actually help much either.

We have had numerous threads on this...

I concur cbp. It's best to spend your time and money elsewhere and have patience. It may make you "feel" like you are doing something, but you can get the same results (if not better) by not feeding your "need to submit".

We use automation software and have gained first page ranking, on several keywords we targeted for our hosting package features.

Without going further into our optimization techniques, I found automation software does not hurt our rankings in any way. It would be interesting to hear other experiences.

How do you know that you got it from the automation software and not other factors?

There would normally be no way that any site can get a first page ranking without links, which means Google crawled you --> submission would be a total waste.

OK let me rephrase, we use automation software and have a top page ranking, so it does not seem to hurt your ranking.

Why do we use submission software? Is that the question? Could you be more specific in your question please.
