    multiple domains and SE

    Hello,

I have a general web site and I would like to have multiple domain names containing specific keywords (related to some sections of the general web site) to point and land to these sections of the site.

    1) Am I correct to assume that url containing keywords will rank higher than the general web site for these keywords?

    2) How should I set this up? subdomain / alias/ web forward? / 301 redirect?
need to be SE friendly of course...

    thanks

    1) Your assumption isn't necessarily correct. Search engine rankings are primarily determined by the number and quality of backlinks pointing to a page. So an internal page can rank just as well as a homepage. Homepages do have the advantage that they have more link juice from things like directory listings, press releases, social networking profiles, etc.

A url with keywords in it helps in that all of their links would have their keywords in it. This does help to get rankings, but you can still beat such a page by having better backlinks. If a keyword rich domain is all that it takes, you would see a matching .com as #1 for every single Google search you do.

    2) Instead of changing your website structure, try working at building backlinks to each section of your website. Each page of your website can be a potential landing page for a certain keyword or a group of keywords. As you build up the link strength of your domain, all of your other rankings will gradually go up too. A well spread out backlink strategy helps each page help other pages on your website.

Why are you spreading your site across different domains? You're spreading your links thin and just hurting yourself.
