    I don't know about that. I have a couple of SEO buddies who have done some serious testing of context for links. And they are very sure that their testing reveals that the words before and after the anchor text are more important than the anchor text. The theory is that Google knows we use our target terms for anchor text so they widen the net to include the context.

    While I agree that may have been the case a good while back, and I means several years. It took no time at all before we were adding small blurbs around our links. To the extent that I beleive that if google is using context at all, then it is the enntire page and not the words around the link only. I think your friends testing is prolly years out of date.

    I think PR measures link popularity only (quantity and not quality), and has no DIRECT influence on SERPS.

    PR is important in looking at the page importance...If the page got PR its simply means its being index well but it doesn't you'll be on top of the serp it still depends on your keywords and your site.

    PR has nothing to do with "importance."

    PR is the probability that the resource will be randomly requested.

    There are but 3 interrelated factors involved in the calculation of PR :

    • The total number of resources evaluated;
    • The number of countable links pointing to a resource; and,
    • The PR values of such links.

    In essence, PR is a measure of popularity.
