    marvio,

You wrote "It's nice but you don't(shouldn't) really notice it if it's not there."

I like it. Simple but you are conveying the right message with few words and nothing complicated (geeky).

PR is important only if you want to sell ads spaces on your website/blog.

I have about 25+ sites with low PR (less than 4) but my full-time
ebiz is doing fine because I have been getting very focused visitors. As such I don't need thousands of hits to
    get a good conversion rate.

Who cares about pr if you have enough traffic? It is just a metric after all, so I think those who consider a certain pr level the ultimate goal of their SEO effort have got a completely wrong idea of what the whole thing is about.

Building backlinks to your site that have relevancy to your website are now very important, but also those backlinks should have a strong page rank. So again page rank plays an important role. I would focus on strong backlinks that are relevant and then your page rank will follow. But Yes, page rank is important. thanks.

I totally agree. I've tried just about everything to drive free and paid traffic to my websites with very mixed results. As soon as I started getting backlinks from higher authority sites (higher PR), the difference was immediate. Google has always wanted its searchers to have a good experience with their search engine so they expect sites to have info relevant to the searches made. PR is their determining of a site's relevance to these searches based on the continual fine-tuning of their algorithms. So PR is still exremely important as long as people still expect to get relevant results for their searches.

    Re: Page Rank?

page rank is an indicator of how "important" google thinks your website is. the correlation between PR and your search engine rankings is not clear cut (i.e., you can rank higher for specific keywords than others, even though their PR may be higher. as others have said, PR may be very important to you depending on the goals of your website.

if you want to increase your PR, then you must increase the number of backlinks to your site. the PR algorithm is related to the total number of incoming links, the PR of the incoming links, and the total number of links on the page that is link to you (e.g., a link coming to you from a PR 3 site that has only 10 links on it is more valuable that a link coming from a PR 3 site that has 100 links on it).

PR is only a snapshot of your site. it is usally a few months old making it an inaccurate measurement of your website.

    Re: Page Rank?

PR is strickly related to Google algorithm to weigh a particular website but it doesn't matter for other search engines like Yahoo and MSN. But since Google is a giant in SE war so people generally try to get better PR so that they appear in top results.

You can improve it by getting back-links from good sites but don't fall into the traps of link farms as they will affect your site's PR negatively.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Re: Page Rank?

a little short recap, increasing your ranking means your building backlinks and it with some hardwork you maybe on the first page of google meaning additional traffic, but traffic doesn't come only on search engines actually 10% of my websites traffic only comes from google and others are split into other areas so to turn your traffic into sales or leads you should have a marketing mind, experiment on other methods and don't focus much on page ranking.

PS: make sure you created a well built content for your website.

    Re: Page Rank?

Page rank does matter. If you write content on a make money online site which is page rank 0, you wont get no visitors sent from google and you will be not even in the top 50 pages. where as if you have a page rank 6 website your content will be up with the first few pages. Thats what ive found anyway. I know that make money online is saturated but thats just an example, page rank definitely helps, higher the page rank, the higher an authority the website is counted as.

    Goodluck.
