    Page Rank?

Does page rank still matter? Or is that an outdated ranking? And if so what are we using to gauge an effective site

PR is just like a small ingredient in a lavish casserole. It's nice but you don't(shouldn't) really notice it if it's not there.

An effective site can be gauged by conversions or other business goal activity - Page Rank has never had a direct relationship to how effective a site is (though an indirect relationship exists where sites which meet user goals receive inbound links).

    Questions related to business goals:

    • How long do visitors spend on the site?
    • How well does the site generate unsolicited inbound links?
    • How many visits does it take before a visitor places an order/signs up for a newsletter?

Gauge site effectiveness with hard metrics and gauge site marketing effectiveness in the SERP's with good old-fashioned research (Google Webmaster Tools will help if you would like to see your present ranking for keywords).

A few questions which may help in determining how effectively your site is being marketed:

    • Are you ranking #1 for the keywords most people are searching?
    • Of the keywords which your site appears for, do you receive a high percentage of click-throughs from the SERP?

Associating site effectiveness with site marketing is a dangerous premise - you can be ranked #1 for every keyword in your niche and still lag behind your competitors if your site fails to effectively convert.

PR does not have more importance.

    but it counts.

to make better PR . make quality back links in forums, directories, make your page content original with keywords on which you want to optimize your website.

    Hi there

You are totally missing the point of owning your website, you set up this website to get people to visit your site, you didnt set up ur site to get the highest pr rating you can did you ? so why buy high ranking links to get your site ranking higher ? it wont guarentee you a higher placing on the search engines !

If you are going to buy some links into your site, forget about pr its just a number ! buy some links that will bring you some visitors to your site and the more relavant these visitors are the better !

If your site starts doing well your pr will rise naturally, as people post links to ur site refering others to ur website !

Get more inbound links from authority sites and sites that themselves have a PR higher than 3. That will help your own PR.

Yes, PR is important for your rankings. See it as a high-level overview of the quality of your site.

    Re: Page Rank?

I know a lot of people believe that page rank is no longer in the equation of ranking well, but I do not believe that. Why would google each month take the time, money, and resources to update everyone's page rank? Obviously page rank is still important, maybe not as important as it once was, but it still is important. Building backlinks to your site that have relevancy to your website are now very important, but also those backlinks should have a strong page rank. So again page rank plays an important role. I would focus on strong backlinks that are relevant and then your page rank will follow. But Yes, page rank is important. thanks.
