We need a better way to report stuff

I have been in the position of wanting to get in touch with the mads about something that I considered to require immediate attention in a post, but I have to go see who is online, and then PM them, and then hope that they notice that.

The mods might have already signed out, or anything, but there might not be anyone online to contact or send a report to anyways.

I wish that there was one special link that we could post a message to so that it would be somehow displayed in the "Moderator Forum" that any mod online would be able to see.

Maybe even a "PM" into a general complaints account that is accessible to just the mods and admin and me also haha just kidding.

But I don't like what I just now saw, and I don't think it is fair that people go into general access threads and post accusations that are blatantly defamitory in purpose, and if it was known then LEGITIMATE complaints would have another route to pursue first as well.
I know that people should be doing this in the first place if they suspect suspicious behavior of a regular member, but I found a viscious accusation made against a reg by a FIRST TIME POSTER who didn't have a www presence to even check.

I have seen in other forums a button at the bottom of each post called "report this post to a moderator" or something similar. I think that it would be a great idea for webproworld. Whenever the button is clicked a message could appear at the top of the page that would only be visible to mods and admins to let you know that there may be a potential problem.

Most of the Mods have their email programs running all the time, and are notified of PM's thru them. If there is a problem with a post, or just a problem in general, PM the Moderator/'s of that forum with the url of the post concerned, and you will find it gets dealt with pretty quickly.

Hi mat, I did pm a couple of mods, but why can't it just get looked at by the first available mod and let them decide?
I saw one person on line and PMed them right away, I am not going to keep going around chasing moderators to take care of a potentialy nasty situatrion.
It is not my responsibility but I go out of my way several times not, and I have more than several times gone around and PMed multiple mods until I got someone.
1 PM and then it is sure to be looked at by the next person in the forum with any authourity.
Or, I could have PMed you, I could have the others who are in europe and fast asleep or everyone has different hours anyway.
I want to know why we cannot just have a 'message box' and it would be so simple. I also don't want to create a stir when it is not my desicion to make, and what if there isn't anyone knowledgeable around!
It is not the end of the world, but I will write the script or adapt a submit form to a flat Db file and I don't hardly know PHP and I could have it done by now.

But of course I don't really know this (lol embarassed), I am just blowing off steam.
I could have PMed the mods for there, and I didn't, and I hear you Mat. Anyways, if I sound frustrated, it is not at you whatsoever. Thanks for answering me here at least, I know you will take care of it.
    Thanks Mat :o)

(carjul, did you put me on decaf again? lol)

The problem also mikmik, is that not all Mods have the 'powers' in all forums.
You can go see which Moderator is online, but if they're not modding that board, they're gonna have to send a pm to the respective Mod anyhow.

You better grab some caffeine and settle down, there mister LOL

Although, I do agree it would be helpful to have somekind of panic button at the bottom of all threads , as some other boards do

    Hi Mike,

I understand where you're coming from (even though I didn't receive a PM!). One of the best ways to call on swift action, (if there are no Moderators online) would be to PM one of the Site Admin here. Brittany or Garrett are generally pretty good at responding to alerts. And where do you get this idea of us in Europe sleeping?? Europeans hardly ever sleep, we're too busy working all hours! LOL!!

    Take care,

    Paul

I didnt recieve a PM or email either. But reiterating on what Cyanide said, we cant moderate forums that aren't ours, so even if a Mod was online, they may not have been able to do anything. Ditto for if there was a Mod alert button, until that forums Mod was online, nothing could get done. So I would say best method is to PM the Mods involved, because it has a faster action of being dealt with because they will recieve notification thru their email & come online.

Are there Mods that go to bed before daylight? ;-)

I agree with mikmik... have been trying to reach anyone for hours, also Brittany, but nobody answers me (to u paulhiles: my timezone is GMT +1:00)... There should be some sort of pannic button, or what so ever.

Or my suggestion would be a mailadress who any mods or admins could respond to right the way.
