Question Can I have a ROR Sitemap with a Google Sitemap for my site?

    Hi Members,

I am in a doubt, regarding the sitemap for my website. I have a Google XML Sitemap for my website.

Recently I went through an article for the ROR sitemap, so I thought of creating the one for my website.

    Here I have a question,

Can I have both the sitemaps for my website?
And is it necessary that your website should be only a product centric website (I mean consisting of buying and selling of online products) in order to have an ROR Sitemap?

    Kindly, advice.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Members,

Is it so difficult to determine wether or not to choose the 2-formats of the sitemap?

    Thanks.

ROR stands for Resources of a Resource, an XML format for describing any object of your content in a generic fashion, so any search engine can better understand that content.

I know that you can have more than one site map on your site. If that is the question?

How adding a sitemap will benefit you is another question.

I would stay with recommendations from google's webmaster tools. Unless you have already done everything they recommend and are looking for additional ways to optimize and market.

I use both. They are differences between them so I think both have different traffic. (I don’t check my stats much).

You should consider checking this sitemaps article which has code examples and explanations of all sitemap file kinds.

I personally don't think you will get any benefit out of creating ROR sitemap files. (As no search engines officially supports it. However, they will read the RSS parts.)

I have never used an ROR sitemap, but what I would say is that its best to provide Google with the prefered sitemap style as they will no doubt be driving most traffic to your site.
