How to get Google to display new page title and description?

When I've changed title and description, it took a few weeks for the changes to appear, but they did appear automatically. I didn't do anything but wait, so I don't know if any of the interesting ideas posted here work or not.

I believe many of the above are plausible. Whether they are actually the case -- I'd like to see them tested and shown. But they sound logical. The only sure thing that I've known to work in every situation is: time.

Personally, I'm going to try webullswobble's pingy wingy trick because I think it's a fascinating idea.
