I haven't used the Google Webmaster Tools at all.

What's the advantage / disadvantage of adding a site to be tracked?

When you use google tool you always have the advantage. Google webmaster tool really helps a lot of webmasters in analyzing the websites behavior on google search engine.

whether related to the blog and it's in the google directory? .. my blog GIP =36.. but until now not appear in google directory. I try to submitt the url to dmoz .. but there is no feedback

Google webmaster tool also givesyou an idea what is working on your link building and what site gives you higher traffic..

using Google webmaster tool is best and easy. get all errors, current page rank, searced query, report any error on pages, crawling statics, etc. Can get many report through web master tool. And also can submit XML site map on it.
But some report like most searched query, internal and external links not getting currently when compared to third party tool.

So much better to use the two g tool to monitor our site. Thru this we can successfully advertise our site and even avoiding the black hat technique
