    drop shipping?viable in this market?

I'm wanting to expand my position online. Diversifying business will keep things steady for me, however I'm not sure if my choice for drop shipping will be worth the time and effort at this point. Could some one tell me how they are doing w/ this? Is this a viable option to set up w/ a drop shipper and design, publish and promote the website?

Drop shipping works well. It is more cost effective if you can get some sort of feed of products so that there is not so much effort involved with getting the products listed you want to promote.

    Benefits

Two main benefits of drop shipping are - no upfront inventory to purchase and a positive cash flow cycle. A positive cash flow cycle occurs because the seller is paid when the purchase is made. The seller usually pays the wholesaler using a credit card or credit terms. Therefore, there is a period of time in which the seller has the customer's money, but has not yet paid the wholesaler.
Other benefits of drop shipping include:
    • Eliminates duplication of effort as only one warehouse will pick, pack and ship the product thereby reducing costs in the supply chain.
    • Reduces total inventory management and shipping costs which can be passed on to the customer by the retailer.
    Risks

As in any business, some risks are involved in drop shipping. For example, back ordering may occur when a seller places a shipment request with a wholesaler, but the product is sold out. Back ordering may be accompanied by a long wait for a shipment while the wholesaler waits for new products, which may reflect badly on the retailer. A good wholesaler will keep retailers updated, but it is the business owner's job to be aware of the quantities that the wholesaler has available.

You can search "drop shipping" in Wikipedia and see detailed info about it.

Hi if you are really wanting to find a good dropshipping company stay away from the search engines as far as googling dropshipping all you will find are scams their is 2 great places online that I know of one of them is world wide brands the other is The Power Sellers Union that is it .
People get confused by all the scam sites as to what a real dropshipper is a real dropshipper is a company that offers a product line that they will dropship for you not one of these millions of products scam sites that you see online those sites that charge a fee for you to access their products dont waste your time bothering or you will get ripped off.
You should also Google every company and see exactly what comes up or google their name and add the word scam next to it.
That will help you to save alot of time and money because if you are new to this chances are you will get ripped off if your not careful or you can just take my advice and go with the company in my link or the other 1 I mentioned above.

Yes, I also agree that finding dropshippers is a big hassle. There are many rip-offs out there offering you contact with drop-shippers.

Some companies like doba offer to store products in their warehouse, and ship for you. You have to choose products they have, that's the down side. They get a percentage for storing the products for you, so it works for them.

Ultimately, it depends what you are selling and how you are marketing it. Do research to see how popular the product is. If you are selling something like lingerie, you might have a very big competition, in which case, unless you are marketing expert, you will have a hard time getting buyers.

It depends on the product you are looking to sell. You can also contact factories directly and come to a term with them in regards to drop shipping, instead of going through a wholesaler. With current situation, it is much easier to negotiate.

I would add Doba.com also to your list of worthwhile dropshipping companies.
