Favour please; convert AI to JPG

If anyone's got a spare 5 minutes, would they be able to convert an AI to a JPG for me as I don't have Illustrator. It's only a little file. Sorry I wouldn't normally ask, but I'm tired and hungry!

    It's here ...

Any ideas of how I could do this myself in the future ??

I've put the JPG at http://stuff.tolranet.co.uk/wpw/New-armida-logo.jpg

I think www.xara.com will read ai files and allow export to jpg if you don't want to buy illustrator, they have a demo so you can give it a go first to check the results.

Thanks speed... that's very helpful. Got me out of a hole! I still can't get it to work properly in QuarkXpress though.

Does anyone use QuarkXpress on these forums? I'm printing out a PDF flyer with this logo (just on domestic printer) but when I put the logo into position and size it down to 80% (because its a weeny bit too big initially) - it ends up looking shocking in the PDF. Does anyone have any idea why?

    The PDF is here

    Thanks anyway speedy!

The link to your PDF is not working.

Having looked at your logo, I'd recommend that you try the .eps file format at 300 dpi. It's a vector based image, versus the raster based .jpg format. (That might be Greek to you but you'll have to trust me).

If you really want to import photo images, they really should be in the .tif file format. Quark has never been famous for importing .jpg files and rendering them properly. Additionally, if for some reason you decide that .jpg is what you really need to import, just make sure the file has a resolution of at least 300 dpi. The default settings for exporting .jpg images from Photoshop, save them at 72 dpi.

That way you can import it to Quark, scale it to whatever size you want and it'll still look great.

One caveat though, it might look weird when you import it because the rendering engine in Quark isn't the greatest but don't worry, it'll print out perfectly as a .pdf.

    Rule of thumb:

If it's a photograph, save it out in a raster (pixel based) file format (.jpg, .png, .tif, .tga), if it's a graphic, save it out in a vector format (.ai, .eps) or as a .gif (for the web).

I threw an EPS file up at http://stuff.tolranet.co.uk/wpw/New-armida-logo.eps so you can give it a try.
