The only thing I don't remove while I sleep are my PJ. well, not unless with company... lol... I got but few jewelry, just a ring and a watch, don't wear them pretty often as well.
No jewelry for me. During the summer the only thing I wear to sleep is the blanket.
By default it is off, since I have none.
Oh where is my watch? I don't use it daily (since it is a stress factor) so by default it is off too.
But, my mobile phone with a clock lies under (to minimize electronic pollution) my bed

Okay folks...
Rule #1... Remove all jewelry before going to bed.
Rule #2... Go back and re-read rule #1
There's a whole list of reasons why. Let's start with necklaces/chains... There's no better way to damage a chain/necklace than to wear it to bed. Tangling, kinking, getting wrapped up in your hair, clasps getting caught or broken, etc. Want to have to get a chain repaired or have to replace it? Wear it to bed.
Rings... Ever notice how your hands can swell overnight or be be swollen in the morning? Can reduce or cut off circulation or even remain swollen due to getting too tight resulting in having to get the ring cut off by sleeping with them on. Prongs holding stones are not invincible. They can get bent or be moved while you sleep. You can even inadvertantly scratch yourself or your partner as well. If a prong set stone happens to come out while you're sleeping, you now have a deadly weapon on your finger able to draw blood.
Watches... Much the same as rings when it comes to swelling. Any watch with a crown can catch on things and if it's not a screw down type and comes open the stem can get bend/damaged.
Piercings... My favorite. Anyone ever had a piercing pulled... real hard? Catch it on something while you sleep and it can easily happen.
The good news is all the folks who sleep in jewelry make those who repair it and sell it very happy.
