    Subdomains. . . what's the scoop?

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could fill me in as to what the pros and cons are of having subdomains. Like if I wanted to have one primary domain, and then offshoot various projects under that same domain names umbrella for various ecommerce web sites I am doing, totally unrelated, can I do like flashlights.mydomain.com and then turn around and have golf.mydomain.com and make sure to not interlink them in any way to each other, outside of being able to reach them from a primary main domain, that links out into various subdomains? How will that effect SEO, etc.?

If your going to have the sites as stand alone sites. Why don't you just "add a domain" using the add on domains through your hosting provider? This will make every domain you add look like it is hosted on it's own account. If you do decide to use sub-domains I do not know of any issues you will come into as long as you do not try and cross link them as this may appear to be PR manipulation if done excessively.
