Thread: SERP and Google

    SERP and Google

    Hi everyone:

I have been working on SEO for a few of our websites over the years and have had great sucess. One of our websites has been on the first page of Google for some very competitive keywords for a long time. For our best keyword we have been in the number 3 spot on Google for many many months. Lately, I have seen it drop to 5 or 6 and then back up to 3 or 4 but it keeops changing. Then, 2 days ago it went to 8, then back to 6, now it is at number 7 spot. I have never seen so much fluctuation ever. It changes daily. Is there something going on with Google that I am not aware of?

This site is number three for allinanchor for this keyword. It should be higher than number 7.

    Thanks for the help,
    Scott

I've noticed this over recent times. Yesterday I ran a search for one of your target terms and noted it's position. Literally 10 minutes later I ran the same search again and found the position had changed by about 30 places. This is making it very tricky for SEO's to accurately monitor positions in the SERP's when they seem to be so erratic.

I am also experiencing the same issues. Google is really cracking down on pr sculpting and other red flag issues. Make sure your pages are clean and google friendly.

    Thanks guys!

However, why do the top 3 sites never change? Some of them are not even any good when it comes to our best keyword. I see sites that are not nearly as established, not optimized etc... that hold great postions.

    What's up with that?

Older sites? More stable back links, etc.

I have noticed the exact same thing. I will do a search for my main keywords (tombstone arizona) and in the morning, I'm at #4 and by the evening it is at #9. I don't see any rhyme or reason for it.

    Re: SERP and Google

Odd my sites never move from # 1 positions.....though forbes.com gave one of them a run for a month or two moving one of my sites to # 2 position but thats not a bad spot either and hey it's little ole me against Forbes so thats always good for the ego....

There is so much that many have no idea effects SERPs that most sites are going to move up and down in position for most of their existence.

If I am not mistaken it was termed 'everflux' a while back..

Anyway basically the web is a living breathing organism which is effected by links which can boost a sites ranking temporarily till Google scores the links and then the sites fall out of the rankings.

Its a loop hole many link spammers know still works.

In order for Google to be the most relevant search engine, when major news happens the news needs to be found in the top spots on Google ( think Myamer Cyclone China Earthquake Colorado Tornado).

For this to happen links must effect SERP almost immediately, and as such so to will link spam.

So what you are more than likely seeing is simple links moving sites up and down after Google scores them at a later date.

Remember - never build a business on a search engines whims!!
