    Will tweaking affect my SEO?

    Hi all,

My main site has about 30 pages. Currently my title tags are in ALL CAPS - a) is this affecting my SEO?

In the search engines they obviously stand out a lot since they are in ALL CAPS, b) but is google penalizing me for this?

    c) If I change it to normal case, will this mess up my rankings?

With all of my pages, I have keywords bolded, underlined and Italiced. On some pages I used the same keyword more than 7 times.

    d) Should I unformat each keyword and reduce keyword spamming?

    e) Again, will this affect my current rankings?

My plan is to change the title tags to normal case and unbold and remove some keywords, but I obviously want to keep my rankings unaffected (negatively).

    Any suggestions welcome!

    Thanks

    Phil

We've been working with someone else to help them with some of the same problems.

That thread contains tons of relevant links related to how to best optimize your keywords, links, etc.

You'd do well to check it out.

Hmmm...thanks Dubya, that site was way off the charts in terms of keyword stuffing! (no offence to lenamor).

My site isn't nealy as bad as that. Every page has a 500 word article if not longer. I will remove some of the keywords and uncapitalize the title tags as well as unbold some of the keywords.

    Thanks

Phil I posted recently some useful information about your issue: http://www.webproworld.com/google-di...tml#post363166

I read your response to Debbya, and I would like to add here that is not alone about keyword density. It is more about keyword weight, etc. I say so because you mentioned about using bold etc.

Here is a very useful article for further understanding: » Avoiding Keyword Stuffing Ban

You say that every page is about 500 words and on the opening post you say that pages have the keyword repeated seven times. This is not keyword stuffing. Ive heard 4% keyword ratio is a good bench mark and that's what i stick to. In your case i think you could probably squeeze a few more in there but i would post up a link to some of your pages before you do that, just to make sure i am not giving wrong advice.

With bold / italics its all about LSI and picking out related keywords. Good article on it here:

Great article Webnauts. Explains a lot of the ranking difference between the big 3.

You may want to check out the Chicago Manual of Style and tailor your site's content and presentation to the expectations of its visitors.

Re: Will tweaking affect my SEO?

    Thanks guys for you advice.

I'm tweaking my pages - removing bold and italics on keywords, because it just looks spammy.

Title tags and meta tags have been optimized and I'm no loger capitalizing all my words in the title tags.

I've dumped a lot of pages that were just linking out and removed a lot of duplicate content.

I've heard about LSI, but I have just wrote my articles naturally.

    Thanks,

    Phil

Don't worry about LSI. What you did is absolutely great!

    Thanks Webnauts,

With meta tags, meta descriptions and title tags many SEO experts have different views on how many words and keywords should be used, because robots don't like to crawl a lot of crap. However the number seems to change with SEO experts. If I go to sitereportcard.com I find that my pages are fine, however reading other SEO advice I find that the number of words should be a lot lower.

It's frustrating, because I don't know who to listen. I've already reduced the number of keywords etc for the 3rd time. Should I just stick to sitereportcard's report and be done with it?

    Thanks,

    Phil
