MagicJack - New, Inexpensive VOIP Service for US

Just wanted to let you all know about this new VOIP I just signed up for ... MajicJack.com ... MajicJack plugs into any computer with broadband and plug a phone into Majic Jack and, voila, land line! Perfect if you want a dedicated fax line, or travel (or live outside the US) and want to call back the US "free."

The Magic Jack costs $40 and that includes the first year of "free" local and long distance calls in the US ... the second year is $20! You get a phone number, and the service includes voice mail, call forwarding, etc. etc. etc.

I haven't used mine yet, but I tested my friend's and the voice quality was great .. like a normal land line.

I think its pretty good. I own one too. I cut the landline a long time ago, essentially I use it to make phone calls. It works okay. The application will remain open on your desktop, so using it for your primary phone probably isn't the best solution. Still a good value.

Thats great! if it is working cool, no distraction of voice and no problems are being faced. Nice job done by MajicJack and economical too.

Seems to be very economical package for me, if it doesn't contains the any problem. Voice should be clear and no commotion takes place.

A new trend of VoIP services has emerged: device-based services. Through a device that you buy, you can make phone calls for free, without ever getting bothered with monthly phone bills. The first popular one we knew was PhoneGnome, then came Ooma. MagicJack has also joined the race.

The MagicJack device is not as bulky and as expensive as those of PhoneGnome and Ooma - it is merely twice as large as a USB pen drive, and costs $40. Unlike the other hardware-based services, however, it does not free you from needing a running PC while making and receiving calls. But the price and great call quality are much worth the try. A 30-day free trial is even being given till the end of March, so you can try without paying.

It is totally free to use. It works, I can vouch for that because I do have one. You do have to pay an annual fee.

The one thing that you should consider is that in power outages, your computer will go down and it will obviously take the phone with it.

This item is great for people who use their land line as a secondary telephone.

Unless, of course, you use a laptop?

In the UK, Cable phones go down in power cuts, but the BT system doesn't, as the power for the phone system is provided by banks of lead acid accumulator batteries, that are on constant trickle charge. Someone told me that they have enough juice to power the phone system for 48 hours, though they have generator sets at the exchanges.
