networking over cable...

Was not sure where to ask/post this:
I am looking into some programs to be able to network to/access my computer and info while away...
I would like other people's opinions and/or suggestions...
the options above are what I've overheard mentioned.

The systems involved run cable speed, if that makes a difference.

A VNC variant will allow you to control the machine remotely. Personally I would use VNC, and also install an FTP Server on the computer...
