Are you running Internet Business Promoter by any chance?

If you do any automated queries with a position checker, or if you do any Googlehacking you will eventually get this message. I triggered it once when I was mangling queries trying to test the accuracy of supplemental index ratios - around the twentieth query I started having to fill out a captcha.

So let's assume that we are on the right track - you must be running a google toolbar - disconnect it in the normal way.

This should fix it - or if not go into Yahoo and search Google.com and click on the link - then if you really must hehe - download the toolbar again - but frankly - I'm doing better in SERP without it.

    Hi Matt, hope you're well.

I too was getting the same error message last Friday particularly when using a firefox search engine add on. I use Advanced Web Ranking for checking search engine positions but don't use the Google toolbar. The AWR is set to run quite slowly and with an api key. After the weekend the problem had resolved itself and I haven't had any problems since.

    Have a good christmas

No im not but i am running Web Position on another PC in the office? Would this effect things? Can you shed a bit more light on the Google tool bar issue? Why would this have an effect and would re-installing it solve the problem?

Yes, if you are running WebPosition and you are not using a Google API to query searches to Google with this tool, you can have problems. My best advice would be to get a Google API user code and put it into WebPosition. That way, Google will accept a huge number of queries from the same IP without problems.

Google toolbar shouldn't affect it (it pulls data from a completely seperate system, toolbarqueries.google.com, and does not interact with their malware detection. The malware detection system looks at aggregate queries across data centers. Any automated tool that repeats queries, runs queries across multiple datacenters, or alters the query strings passed to Google at a high rate (as little as 20 times in an hour possibly), or any manual process that causes you to access multiple data centers with similar queries in a short period of time can trigger the system.

On the captcha page, there should be a help link that explains the various causes for that message to be displayed.

EDIT: The lockout is applied based on IP address. Your entire network would most likely be affected.

Are you using a remote proxy server for your internet connection? This is something that can cause this problem.
