phpBB Gold Release December 13, 2007

As I write this, there are about 14 hours left until the release of phpBB Gold. After 8 release candidates, it seems they are finally ready with phpBB 3. This is pretty exciting news for what is probably the most widely used php script on the net. A quick backlink check for the links to phpBB shows there are 248 Million links!

I got frustrated with phpBB after few updates for a couple of years, but it seems they are back on track. I hope they will have a successful release, and plan to try it soon after the release tomorrow.

phpBB is excellent. I use it on my own forum, and with the StrafoxTj toolkit I have very good contorl over the software.

I definitely look forward to version 3.0 that I have waited for for a time now. Great ifor.

As you seem to be phpBB experts, I wondered if you could compare it to other forum / community software, particularly vBulletin.

While the latter has a price tag - I can't help it - it also seems to make a more robust impression. But this is before having systematically compared them.

I would appreciate any comments very much.
