    Comments appreciated - www.perrywinkleskids.com

    Hi.

I would really appreciate comments on my site Perry Winkles Kids: Fine Girls' Smocked Dresses and Boys' Clothing. We sell smocked dresses and other children's clothing.

I am mainly looking for ideas on how to increase conversion and enhance the user experience overall. Are there any design faux pas?

Also, thoughts on how to better structure or use language (keywords, descriptions) to drive traffic would also be useful.

    Many thanks!

I agree with that the copyright date is an issue, but I also see the following :

#1 the Yahoo Favicon - you should either delete it or replace it with your own.

#2 the transfer to the yahoo website to purchase with no warning - should at least note that you are being taken off site to make your purchase

#3 no way to track my order off your main website.

I guess my question would be why not simply install your own e-commerce script and do it yourself rather than transferring to yahoo to do it.

Just my honest opinion of course

I like the products but I find myself wishing I could see the entire dress (or other item) instead of about 1/3 of a dress.
I would also make the "Large" picture of the item come up in a popup instead of a different window dependent upon the user clicking the "back" button. They may not understand why the navigation and site just "disappeared" and not know just to use the back button. So.... that customer is lost in more ways than one.

A few things that need attention.

    1. In the home page you have a JavaScript above the opening head tag - that it invalid html. Looks like a Yahoo tracking script. It should be either inside the head tag area or inside the body tag. On some other pages there is JavaScript after the closing body tag and some even after the closing html tag.

    2. The other validation errors are less important but mostly easily sorted - they are mostly because of not closing tags correctly when using an XHTML 1.0 Strict Doctype , also make sure everything in the code is in lower case with this doctype.

    3. You are giving yourself the canonical problem by having some links pointing to addresses with www in them and others without. If any of the search engines have indexed both versions you will be seen as having duplicate content. I can't tell what sort of server you're on but you may need to instigate a 301 redirect from the non-www version to the www version if it's possible on your server.

    4. Title and meta tags. Title tags are a bit basic - do some keyword research end then target your pages to any terms that make sense for you with title tags of up to 66 characters. You don't have any meta-description on your pages. The keywords tag (which you have on the home page) hardly matters but the description tag does - write unique ones for each page.

    5. Some of your images don't have ALT text.

    6. While some of the images are charming, some of the ones of the dresses against the wall background are very flat and lacking in contrast. Tweaking in a graphics program would probably fix them.

    7. You have a blog but I can't see any links to it from the main site. Connect it in and the two parts can help each other. Mention new items in the blog and link to the relevant pages with good link text.

Otherwise a lovely little site - best of luck with it.

    cheers

    Bill
