    rankings and feedburner

I have a question about rankings and using feedburner for my RSS Feeds.

In the past I've created my own xml file so all my rss feeds had the following link: www.mysite.com/rssfeed.xml

I'm creating a new site and I'm thinking about using feedburner so if my feed link changes I can just change it in my feedburner setup and not have to change the link at 100 different sites that link to my feed. Using feedburner my link will be www.feedburner.com/mysiterssfeed.xml

My question is will this lower my ranking for searches on my feed since the link isn't to my url but to feedburners?

    Thanks

Ideally you want to link directly to the page on your site. It could have a detrimental effect on your rankings so i wouldn't recommend it.

Just noticed that Google has purchased Feedburner so I guess the answer is to wait and see what effect this has on how Google ranks feedburner links. My suspicion is that it could actually benefit you to be using Feedburner but who knows what Google has in mind?

It would definitely help in terms of SERP mainly keeping google in mind.

    Re: rankings and feedburner

I ended up going with feedburner.com

I did this because it will be the best for our site users. If I change the site design I simply need to change the link at feedburner. All the sites and users that link to by podcast don't have to change anything.

The one problem is that all the links to my mp3's are through feedburner so I use the direct links back to my site on all those pages. I think that is worth the ease of use for me and our users.

    Thanks,
    JC

You can have feedburner redirect to your domain and host the RSS feed on your site. So you would not loose any juice.

From an SEO standpoint do you get the same result for having links to feeds.harvestpointecc.com/sample as I would if I had a feed to an xml file at www.harvestpointecc.com

    Re: rankings and feedburner

I guess the question is does subdomain links get counted as links to the main domain? I guess it has to be better from an SEO standpoint to have a link to the subdomain than feedburner.

    Any thoughts?
