I've seen static and dynamic pages mentioned in previous posts. Could someone please tell me what they mean(obviously a newbie!)
Static pages are normal html pages and usually have .html or .htm extensions.
Dynamic pages are pages that are normally generated by a program on the fly from infomation contained in a database. Dynamic pages usually have extensions like .php .asp .aspx .cfm etc.
A static page is a page that exists in it's own right. It's just there.
A dynamic page is assembled at the time it is accessed, and does not exist in it's own right. It comes to life when called upon.
I've read the postings on static vs dynamic web sites, but...(a newbie) How does this translate to static and dynamic portals? Is one more preferable over the other? When should I consider a static portal instead of a dynamic portal?
