What operating system are you trying to run this backup on?

Have you tried the built in backup utility? On Windows XP Pro, go to Start > Run and type in Backup. Select "Back up files and settings" click next and select "Let me choose what to back up" and on the next screen select the folders you want to back up. On the screen after that, select where you want to store the backup, and then set the schedule.

It is not installed (did as adviced). Saw on the internet that you can install the necessary program from the original Windows XP disc. I have one problem though: There was just the restore cd when I bough my laptop

Hate laptops. But I also gave bad instructions for accessing the Backup utility. In the Start Menu > Run dialog box, the correct command to type is ntbackup. You can find the file also in %SystemRoot%\system32\ntbackup.exe in Windows Explorer. The program is called ntbackup.exe.

When I enter it in the comand prompt it cannot be found. Also checked the folder you mentioned, but it is not in there...
