Thread: What do you do with a directory that has incoming links?

  1. #1

What do you do with a directory that has incoming links?

What do you do with a directory that has incoming links, when you do not need the directory anymore?

I have submitted to webmaster tools, and told google to de-index. I have redirected the directory, and sub pages to another website. I have tried to get the incoming changed, but as yet most of websites in question are not interested - there is 130 links according to google webmaster tools (but probably a lot more).

Is Google going to penalise my website for having links coming in to pages that I do not want anymore?

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

The best thing to do is to redirect that directory/URL using a 301 Permanent Redirect either to your home page or another related page on your site that could use those links (and the link credit that the directory is receiving).

Is it best to delete the directory in question aswell?
