While not exactly what you want, we use Advanced JPEG Compressor. It is easy to use and inexpensive. We purchased the program for around $30. More info is available at WinSoftMagic, Inc. - Advanced JPEG Compressor - Compress, Resize, Edit, Convert JPEG Photos.

    Hope that helps.

I would agree... If you use adobe photoshop, you can save the image for web and optimize it in adobe image ready.

Well of course the point of the question is we don't have software.

You could try Reduce load time by optimizing graphics with GifBot While it is free, if I remember correctly, there is a limit to either the number of times you can use it or the extent that the free version will reduce file size.

Thank you. I might try one of the low cost programs you mentioned!

    Tim,

You mention using PhotoShop to save the image for Web and then optimize it with ImageReady. PS allows you to optimize for the web - why do you want to use IR after compressing with PS? It looks like both apps have the same compression algo because you end up with the same relative file size.

I use photofiltre - it's a French program, free, easy to use, doesn't use up much memory space, but is very good at image modification and stuff like that.
