    Thumbs up

OK, I have free directories if you are in the niche.

First is City Psychics for astrology, tarot, psychic readings, ghosts, extraordinary type sites.

The other is Online TV Guide which is for video streaming/sharing websites.

As long as you are in the niche you can get a link.

I just submitted one of our websites to Better World Directory. Thanks, Zeo.

The directory is now PR 1, much better than the n/a of the website I just submitted. I am also of the opinion that low PR directories/web sites is not completely useless. And the hope is that when they improve in PR in the future, the link to our website will have more value.

How can an approval rate be SEO friendly?

Google doesn't publicly display an accurate reflection of a site's backlinks. If you want to see a site's link profile, I suggest you use Yahoo Site Explorer or blekko.com.

That depends on each individual directory owner. It can take minutes, hours, days, months, years.

many of them advertize as free, the when you get to submit they tell you either you need to link back and/or need to pay before they will actually link back to you. Bit frustrating to go through the submission process only to find at the end that they arn't giving anything until you pay...

Na - you will figure that out pretty quick. On their main page, look for text links or graphics that indicate, Add URL, Submit site - things like that. Once you are on the registration page, it usually indicates the requirements and choices you have. You will usually see choices relating to being free, free with receip, paid listing and premium paid listing. All-in-all, it takes a couple of minutes or less to figure it out. Filling in the form takes another couple of minutes.

Getting in while they are low PR sites ensures a no-cost submission. Those low or PR0 sites may not remain PR0 sites forever.

I don't believe it's "useless" to submit to free directories, as you put it. Some free directories review and include submissions in as little as a week while others can take 8 weeks to review. I just submit them and don't worry about it as they will eventually be included.
