You're right, @deepsand, it need not. But at least here I can sort tin from tinsel, and anywhere else I look around it's all foreign to me. I've visited hundreds of forums over the years, but never joined a one of them, just read the post I came to from search and left. Sometimes with an answer, sometimes back the SERP that brought me there. To look at the makeup of most forums nowadays, it's not something I care to become a newbie in. And there are no 'hobbyist' forums that I have ever stumbled upon. Warts and all, this is home.

Have you ever taken a look at the other place where MJ, Basic, Doc, Coldfire and I hang out? Or, the tech forum that AlphaOmega has cited on several occasions?

I'm not in that league, which is to say I have not the credentials they have.

League? Credentials?
Methinks you sell yourself short.

Put a different way... Here I get to (sort of) rub shoulders with the 'Noah's' where in another forum I'd be trampled under foot and/or lost in the crowd. Plus I'm very slow to accept change, if what my wife says is true.

Well, you for instance. I could drop a whole whack of names, but then that would just be patronizing. We know who they are. I serve with some of them on the dark side.

You've heard of the last survivor of the Jonestown flood? He spent his whole life retelling the story like he was bewitched by an albatross, and as there is apparently no sin in this he went to heaven when he died of very old age. St. Peter gave him one request upon entering the Pearly Gates to which he immediately blurted out, "I want to tell everyone in Heaven how I survived the Jonestown flood." Peter, being good to his word assembled all the masses, and being Heaven, everyone could hear perfectly well. He escorted our subject to the podium, and before departing asked, "Are you sure you want to do this?" To which was replied, "Well of course!" Peter then added, "You do realize that Noah is in the audience?"

Noah is not a name that would have come to mind for those of us who are just too damned stubborn to die.

Hardly a name one wants coming up in this context.

My brother was fit enough to work around horses six months ago and today came and talked with me about being close to the door. Yesterday he was Goliath. Today he's meeting David.

[Had to step outside for a smoke while my vision cleared from the memories evoked.]
You have both my sympathy and empathy, Roy, as I know full well the shock and sense of disbelief that such sudden and unexpected turn of events can bring.
At age 58, my father was as fit & strong as the proverbial ox. Then, one day he has a sebaceous cyst removed from behind one ear; three days later he dropped dead, the consequence of an internal clot having broken loose, eventually reaching the heart, where it lodged in a value, slowly depriving the brain of oxygen.
