    Reputation System Details

    The New Reputation System:

Here's the skinny on how the new reputation system has been implemented. I have taken into account a great number of factors in terms of weighting reputation scoring ability and advancement etc. Some of these values may need to be tweaked as we move along, but I like what we have to start with.

    So here's how it works:

    Default Reputation
Rep Score all new users receive upon registration = 1

Number of Reputation Ratings to Display

Number of ratings to display in the user's control panel = 5

    Register Date Factor
For every 365 days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. = 1 influence point per 365 days of membership

    Post Count Factor
For every 1000 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. = 1 influence point per 1000 posts

    Reputation Point Factor
For every 100 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.= 1 influence point per 100

    Minimum Post Count
A user must have a minimum of 50 posts before his reputation hits count on others. = 50 posts minimum

    Daily Reputation Clicks Limit
How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period. = 10 per day

    Reputation User Spread
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again. = 20

    Now the scale:

    User RepRank -3 = -1000
    User RepRank -2 = -100
    User RepRank -1 = -50
    User RepRank 0 = 0
    User RepRank 1 = 10
    User RepRank 2 = 50
    User RepRank 3 = 150
    User RepRank 4 = 250
    User RepRank 5 = 500
    User RepRank 6 = 650
    User RepRank 7 = 950
    User RepRank 8 = 1200
    User RepRank 9 = 1300
    User RepRank 10 = 2000
    User RepRank 11 = 5000

So there you go. We'll see how it works.

I had to change it in the profile before it showed. Most people wont even think to do this. I suggest having it default as instant email notificaiton and then allow people to opt out in their profile.

There are MVPs - or will be rather. As soon as I get MVP back on, I'll post about it.

    Re: Reputation System Details

I know a lot of thought and discussion has gone into this already, and I am sure I have missed a few of the threads related to the rep system, but as I read the details, I got a bit confused, probably with the terminology. This is what I could figure out, please tell me if I am right or wrong....

    1) There are two elements, Rep Points that you can accrue, and your RepRank, which is determined by how many Rep Points you have and which is displayed to other users.

    2) When joining the forum, you get 1 Rep Point.

    3) For every year as a member of the forum, and for every 1,000 posts made, you earn 1 Rep Point.

    4) Users who have posted on the forum at least 50 times can vote on posts from other users, with either a positive or negative vote. The number of points earned or lost from that vote is weighted based on the Rep Points of the individual voter, and only so many votes can be made by a user per day.

    5) User votes are weighted based on the Rep Points of the voter, with 1 Rep Point given to (or taken from) the votee for every 100 Rep Points the voter currently has.

    5) The total number of points which you have earned determines your RepRank according to the given chart.

A user who joined (1 Rep Point) in 2004 (three years= 3 Rep Points) and has posted 2,000 posts (2 Rep Points) would then have 6 points and a RepRank of 0.6, not counting votes?

Have I gotten it correct so far? I know I am missing something, just not sure what. (The math doesn't add up) For instance, are there additional Rep Points for being a moderator or MVP, to give the system the initial weight for distribution? And the other point below, I could not figure out at all.

    A) Number of ratings to display in the user's control panel = 5 > Not sure what this means - is this the number of vote comments that will be shown?
The best way to learn anything, is to question everything.

    Correct.

Yes. MVP (when they are re-instated) will have additional rep score power - as do moderators and admins.

Yes, at that setting you will see the comments left by the last 5 people to rep you - -you will not however see their names. All rep scoring and commenting is anonymous.

    Hope that helps...

    Re: Reputation System Details

Really guys the easy way to look at rep points is as a social marketing plugin For example...

If you read a really good post today and think to yourself "wow that was great, glad he/she posted that" just go to the top right hand corner of the post and click the button and give them a positive Rep and you can even leave them a short message to say thanks!

Furthermore... if you consider WPW your home... and find spam or shameless self promotion or just don't like the subject matter... you can also give them negative rep...

it's basically a Thumbs up / Thumbs down system... which comes in handy for newbies to say... oh this person spews junk according to the red pips... or "oh this person gives good info"

The plain and simple explanation of it all is it's a pat on the back for good posts... and a thumbs down for bad posts... and EVERYONE can participate... not just mod's / admins / mvp's! It's giving the power to the people
