    Is DIGG helpful for SEO?

I have seen some blog sites that includes a bar of such sites icons like: Digg, Del.icio.us, Fark, Blinkbits and Fark etc.

Is this really good to place these website icons to promote your content?

Does it really help SEO to increase traffic and to make your link popular?

Secondly, If someone has already Digg the blog_post and if again someone other tries to Digg the same blog_post. Will the same blog_post be added for twice or it will just make the existing link popular?

    Only if...

Only if you actually get dugg...the links on your site don't matter, people pushing your page onto those sites...does matter. Links are gold.

Sites like digg are incredibly popular, but only if you are dugg to the front page.

I read somewhere once that a front page article will receive 300-800 links, almost all from bloggers.

Is there anyone here that wouldn't like 300-800 blog links?

I think in the worst case scenario you will get at least one backlink from Digg.

And this is also not so bad for SEO, and any backlink from authority site (and Digg is an authority) is at least some extra boost to the value of your site in the eyes of search engines.

But, of course, one backlink is not enough to hit the top chart in search engine results.

If you digg your site in the top 30 social bookmarking sites - it will get you indexed pretty fast.

I've experimented with digg etc.... If you start to get a fair few diggs you'll be indexed pretty damn quick, but in my experience these have got to happen when you're on the first few pages of upcoming.

I had an article submission (with anchor text links) that got dugg a week or so ago. Within 48 hours of the submission and the start of the diggs it was indexed and the 3 targetted phrases all put my site on the 1st page of google.

There were only just over 1,000,000 competing pages, so fairly niche subject, but it shows the weight digg carries, better than any other backlink I've had to date.

Ok, so you can get a backlink that is indexed by google even if you don't make it to the front page?

I wonder about people searching digg also.

Spreading the word about any of your pages or posts is always good for SEO, because it can lead to links and sometimes qualified traffic. The problem with Digg is the visitors are usually "curious" ones that are not apt to convert. Lots of eyeballs and no buys, but like I said before this traffic can lead to some nice backlinks in other peoples blogs/websites.

is this really a good place...to promote your site
A while back I wrote a post here about my experiences with social bookmarking communities like Digg, Delicious, Netscape, etc.

If you look at the "big picture", then these sites can be very helpful and an essential part of the "big picture" when it comes to promoting a site.

First, you need to create the site and have good content--especially content that others want to see. Once you've created that content, you need to do your part to help others find it. If you are "networked" properly (and have built up a good profile and "network" of friends) on these sites (digg, delicious, Netscape, reddit, etc.), then it's very possible to tell your friends about the content--which will hopefully lead to them "digging" or "bookmarking" or "voting" for your content. If your site's content is good enough and enough people like it then it might become popular. And if enough people like it and those people are bloggers or own sites then they might link to you.

Keep in mind that the social bookmarking communities are really only one part of the whole "big picture". Everything else needs to come together as part of the whole entire equation.
