    Google's new in-house SEO operation

Given that Google is likely to be successful in its acquisition of DoubleClick, has anybody thought through the implications for Performics?

These are the SEO and affiliate division of DoubleClick. Amongst other things they're a Yahoo strategy provider.

Will Performics get access to Google insider information? Will Google treat Performics clients with a little less scrutiny? Or will Google realise that its unethical to operate an in-house SEO operation?

The largest search engine in the world buying one of the larger SEO companies in the world? Than this as “evil” as it gets if you ask me. They HAVE to sell the SEO part and of course consider keeping the affiliate component.

If anything I feel bad for the clients of Performics if they were happy with the results, because those are going bye bye. If I was SEO sale person (smile, smile) I would be on the horn to these clients right now. I wonder if Google will be taking a very close look at the internal SEO workings of Performics before selling them. Much might be gained of this if the results from the organic work of Performics was any good.

Google misses alot, like this cartoon says:

But then, like Microsoft says, thay dont have to follow the rules, they ARE the rules.

I SO much prefer the smaller outfits, much better service.

Oh come on guys, ethical, shmethical....

They are taking money from adwords clients, what makes you think that they wont be offering seo services to the really large players for major big bucks?

They are a profit center, not the red cross...

But, what about "Do no evil?"

So then, which are you saying, that unethical behavior would not violate Google's "Do No Evil" mantra, or that hypocritical behavior on their part is acceptable?

I agree, it is a business. So long as something isn't illegal, it is ethical for money-making purposes. At least, that's how I think they would view it. The goal is to make money though the clients they can reach, which could include SEO clients.

Too bad for those of us who may not be able to afford their services.

No, like AT&T (was) they are not. Nor are they a monopoly.

    Wise words Kjell.

We only use G as its CURRENTLY useful, and more useful and usable than any other single website for its purpose. But in this industry things change fast (even faster than in AT+&T days) and they could loose it all to a new company one day.
Not as if I would be bothered, nor would any of the G boys so long as they have invested a tiny amount of their earnings.

G have only been around since 1998, my company was two years old by then! Here is G in 1998:

The changes I have seen during the last 16years of using the Internet have been immense. And that change can only increase in speed...

To conclude - for profits think G would utilise SEO I would.

The acquisition was helpful for G and it's aligning to their offering. They will now learn from them what tactics they were using to break G's algo by trial and error method. Now G will develop its new algo based on those learning.

    With regards,
