I've got this site that I've been working on trying to integrate a custom look with using Early Impact's ProductCart system. Unfortunately, I built everything off of the root directory using index.htm as my home page. I've noticed that most sites don't use index.htm, but rather default.htm or default.asp.
Question 1: will using index.htm as the default page to load in a directory affect search engine indexing, or do SE bots prefer default.asp?
Question 2: in the event that search engines would rather index a default.asp page off of a root directory, can I add a default.asp as a redirect to the index.htm in the same directory so that I don't have to go and change EVERY link in the site that points to index.htm over to default.asp? Will that cause the site to be flagged by the search engines and either dropped or lowered in rank?
