Why use Affiliate links as opposed to contextual advertising

I’m new to affiliate world and I’m struggle with this questions. Do you think Affliates links would be better for the site providing products information for its visitors?Or it's better to stick with a contextual advertising such as Google’s Adsense?
    Cheers,

    Hi,

Well IMO it can depend on your sites objective.

If your talking about a e-commerce site like the one in your signature link, then I would say not to use either. After all, you want them to buy from you and not click away to someone else's site that pops up in a contextual ad. Right?

If your talking about a Niche Site, which can be a blog, or a 1-5 page site, then I would use both.

Niche sites tend to target a specific need for the visitor, but could be set up using very broad keyword(s), thus you could join one or more affiliate sites that fit the niche. Using only one type would be leaving money on the table.

Food for thought: Do you want them to leave your site?

    Robert
