I can only assume there might be a bug in either ZenCart or some third-party modules, since most of decent ecommerce solutions should track all the events you've mentioned. As an idea, take a look at our solution, most likely CS-Cart will be suitable for you.
For reports i would recommend you just Google Analytics, it will provide you with detailed information about visit, traffic sources, conversion rate, will also help you to track your advertising campaigns.
Actually nowadays most shopping carts have built-in integration with Google Analytics usually.
