    Entire site on Bonus.com

    I can't figure out if this is a good thing or a bad thing. My entire site is placed inside an I-Frame on Bonus.com This is a children's site with a lot of content of their own, but also "homework" help to other sites. Bonus.com removes all ads in my site, as well as links to my products, does not make it clear that the content is provided by someone else, and does not link to my site. Furthermore, they place their own ads at the top of the I-Frame. They also never asked me if this was ok.

    The direct link to my page in the site is so long that the best way, if you want to see it, is to type "legends" in their search bar.

    Thanks for any thoughts you have.

    I would say that's pretty kind of them to give you the extra traffic.

    does not make it clear that the content is provided by someone else
    Why not change your banner a tad and add your complete URL to show people where they are at.

    they place their own ads at the top of the I-Frame
    It is there traffic after all, put yourself in their situation, wouldn't you do the same.

    They also never asked me if this was ok.
    Most people do not complain about getting extra traffic for free so i wouldn't complain.

    What you can do though, is add a script to your page that breaks out of frames like this one

    ************************
    <HEAD>
    <script language="JavaScript">
    <!--
    if (window != top) top.location.href = location.href;
    //-->
    </script>
    </HEAD>
    ************************

    I have to warn you though, there is a good chance that they stop giving you that traffic if you do.

    I would just say thanks and move on.

    They have done more than put your website into an iframe.
    They have altered your code.

    For example:
    on your website: <form method="get" action="http://www.legendsofamerica.com/searchresults.html" target="_top">
    on their website: <forrrm method="get" action="http://www.legendsofamerica.com/searchresults.html" target="_top">

    Changing form to forrrm causes different behavior.

    For example: <a href="http://www.bonus.com/contour/legends_america/http@@/www.legendsofamerica.com/LA-Places.html"

    For example: they removed your entire top menu.

    Actually, I don't think they are linking to your site. I think they lifted (i.e., stole) your site and are serving up their modified pages.

    I would call what they have done: THEFT.

    You can try the Javascript suggestion above, but I don't think it will help. I think the first thing you need to determine is whether or not they are linking to your website or have just stolen it.

    Well well Mr Barnes, you bring up a good point...

    Let's look at this issue again shall we, I didn't really analyze the situation to your extent but after doing so, there are some interesting findings...

    Search not functional:
    the search function I give the benefit of the doubt, as this can be done by accident caused by the script bonus.com is using.

    BUT, this very same script also:
    * Removes all Google ads from all the pages... interesting.
    * Disables shopping cart on all pages.....interesting

    SO, the traffic they are sending/giving you is useless as there is no way to make sales from it.

    Nice catch Mr Barnes, I have never seen a script like this used before. I figured it was the typical frame.

    So what to do, using the break out of frames script will not work with this script i don't think. It's too advanced.

    1) I suggest a nice letter to the webmaster to remove your site.
    2) Threat of lawsuit for theft if that doesn't work.

    Good Luck

    Thanks guys. To make things a little clearer. Bonus.com is linking to my site and actually accounts for about 6% of all traffic I receive. But, of course, the ads, search box, and buy buttons are gone, as well as any active links to my store. So, traffic it is, but "targeted" traffic it is not. This is why I start out by asking the qustion: "is it a good thing or a bad thing?"
