Dumb question re: inbound link

This is probably a no-brainer for many of you...

When I look at the inbound links to my site - http://www.jannmirch.com - I get a weird link from http://www.bestwaysuites.com/. It looks like it would be a hotel chain or something but it looks like a messed up footer from a site I did a long time ago.

My question is, is there a security issue here that I should be concerned with? I've been reading about people losing bandwith to stealth sites, etc. but don't know much about it.

Moderator the second link should be removed. There is a bad redirect.

Remove it if you can as it adds no value. There is no security issue with this but it market you certainly do not want to have a bad product.

Links cant be a security issue. Google also says that bad inbound links may not effect your ranking. Catch is the word "May", so better play safe with Big G.

Actually this is something which is not in your control, anyone can link to you and thus take it easy.

It's a piece of a frame. Your URL is in the code. That is why it is returned as a link to your site. It is not a security issue.

By a bad redirect I mean the following:
- A link that takes (redirects) you to a page with wrong information, eg. about your computer. That wrong information may impose less knowledgable people to take wrong action, e.g. buying antispyware programs they do not need (and are often sold via that bad page).

A worse redirect / page may take you to a page that automatically starts downloading software, eg. spyware etc. It depends on your browser('s) (settings) and your installed softare (configuration) how dangerous that software is. One of the worst is the about:blank browser hijacker. The worst take administrator control of your computer.

So, at least indirectly, a link may be a security risk.

is a typical example of a bad site, even if it is a comedy site. No danger in loading the site, so express your meaning.

The message:
Norwegian:
"Advarsel! Feil oppdaget.
Send RAPPORT REPARERE NÅ"

Translated to English:
"Warning. Error discovered.
Send Report Repair now."

is a secure way not to be indexed in my linkcollection collected and ranked since 1995.

What do you think novice surfers think when they see such a message?

1. Repair now?
2. Take the phone and call a friend?

That is another secure way of not being linked to.

But the last time I think there was a message about my registers. That too, a way not to be indexed.

How have they tested my registeres in the background? And if they have done it, they have no admission to do so.

How can I rely on such a site?

In such cases, ctabUK is correct. The Google pagerank indicator is a joke. And I knew, as an Englishman he would in the end be correct either directly of indirectly.

This is what makes it difficult to have affiliate links on your site. You have no control of whether the webmaster changes the site to a form you would not have accepted the first time you linked to them. Affiliate providers require you to accept the TOS of some merchants. There is no symmetry. There should be a similar TOS of what advertisers accepted. Then you would not get messages to join campaigns from merchants that did not pass your TOS. This could be fully automated.

Kgun what are you talking about please don't misdirect people. Someone linking to you is not in your control and will not hurt your ranking. It also has no security risk.

Now all this is besides the point that Jann said he worked on this website and probably could get the link removed with little effort.

If Jann has no control of the website it still doesn't mean much, just go on with life and worry little about these small things in life.

The post is placed in the security subforum. Can you make your point more clear? Have you understood what I wrote? A passive link in itself can not hurt you. And that special link is not a security risk. I took the discussion a little further.

Having a link on another website that you can or can not control is NOT a security issue.

I've been reading about people losing bandwith to stealth sites, etc.

If a stealth site is causing you bandwidth problems report them to your hoster and they should be able to help the attack.

Agree to that too. We should "make it simple, as simple as possible but no simpler". That was my old signature. My new one is different. So may be I should change it to :"The road is made while walking, but remember to make the road as short as possible." Wish the poster and you a great day :-)
