Does look extremely nice, but I think their need more than that to make an impact!
Yes, its beautiful but it takes more than looks to get this nerd, baby.
Their homepage weights 286070 bytes, therefore it has a very long download time. HORRIBLE!!!
Thanks God I have DSL 2000, and not a modem 56K as a friend of mine has who is living in Illinois, which would take him 57.61 seconds to view the homepage. LOL!
And my best compliments for their markup: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos...w.lycos.com%2F
Sorry, but beauty is not enough to promote and sell your products and/or services. ;)
I agree it is actually funny that download time is still an issue for large corp websites like this. Dont they have employees that do any testing before they release these pages to the public? LOLOriginally Posted by Webnauts
That is realy weird. At Lycos Europe I was a Web Development Tester and Lead for Usability Testing for 2 year. And Lycos USA has no testers? They might can offer me a job. LOLOriginally Posted by incrediblehelp
I closed my browser down after it didnt load for 40 seconds, dumb.
I know all you Yanks get really cheap or even free phone lines, is that why you all stick to using a modem for surfing?
I didn't notice the homepage was particularly slow.
I didn't notice that it was particularly beautiful either.
Maybe I need stronger drugs?
May I ask if you are you probably of employee of Lycos.com? :)Originally Posted by starldr
Wow lycos... gee I had forgotten about them!
A few things that look disappointing right off:
- When doing a search, they are so many sponsored sites that any "real" result are below the fold. I'm sure it depends on the search terms, but still, as a person who turns to the web for a lot of information-gathering, it's annoying.
- Along the same line, it makes me wonder if indeed they are making a come back. If so many people are willing to pay for ads?
- Looking at their Adbuyer program, another disappointment is that they don't give many details, rather they provide a phone number (???) or an email address. Seems highly inefficient to me.
- At the bottom of a search page, they offer a second opinion, from Hotbot. Are they THAT insecure ;)?
- They must have read the comments here, as their home page loaded fast for me ;) (DSL connection).
- Of course this could be one of those self-fulfilled prophecies. If people if forums such as this one start looking at Lycos, they'll get popular :).
Looking at the posts so far, and the votes, maybe we're just a bunch of whinies LOL?
