How do I remove a link to my site from Google?

    Hi all,

Is there a fast way to remove a link to my site from the google search engine?

Normally a link from Google is a good thing, of course. The link in Google to which im referring, however, has information on a page that no longer exists on my site. So now if someone were to click on that link, it redirects them to my homepage instead.

I just want that link with all its information to vanish from Google. Is that possible?

    Thanks
    -B

not sure if it's possible, except if they remove it themselves for penalty reasons. however, you can reclaim this link by setting up a 301 redirect for the page Google is linking to. have it navigate visitors trying to access the removed page to a related page, even if it happens to be your index page.

the link and its benefits are more important than what the visitors will come in contact with, especially if you use a proper redirect.

    301 Permanent redirects

if you are using Cpanel then it is a breeze to setup. Other server management software might also offer ways to set them up.

if there are many pages, like 100's then just setup a 404 page, either your sitemap or your home page, but I recommend 301 temporary or permanent redirects

If you have control of the website simply delete the link. If dont have control over the website ask the owner of it to remove the link.

Just redirect that link to relevant page or related topic using .htaccess file, so that value should not be lost.

This is for removal from search index - only if it urgent.

    Think, the question was different.
