    Publish Garbage, Get High Ranking

It seems that everytime I do a search lately, on most any topic, the Search Engines return with "Garbage" pages topping the results. You know the pages I'm talking about. They all look the same. They have an "Adwords" campaign at the top, followed by scripts that either provide a PPC link list, an RSS feed, or a combination of both.

These pages provide little true value except to their authors who are probably making a living off the "click-throughs" being generated by people trying to actually find information on the Internet, instead wasting time running in circles following the linkage from these pages. Most of these pages resemble a Search Engine results page for the most part. Many of them link to similar pages never bringing the user to any usefull content or product. And, they all share one unique trait. None of them provide any content of their own.

So I have to ask . . . how do these "garbage" pages rank higher in Search Engine results than sites that actually provide content? I mean, I just DO NOT get it! And, am I the only one that believes the persons responsible for such pages should be prosecuted for every "click-through" they collect payment for?

Oops! Wait a minute. Are these pages the result of some Search Engine marketing stradegy? Is this another plot by "Google" to rule the world. I wonder how many web site owners are paying for the "click-throughs" generated by these pages, or paying multiple "click-throughs" for PPC campaigns.

Regardless, these pages are "GARBAGE" and should not be placing high in any Search Engine ranking. And, the fact that are, leads me to question why?

Re: Publish Garbage, Get High Ranking

    Hi Datajam,

One thing I have noticed is that a number of these sites were referrer spamming my webserver using zombie hosts. When I investigated all of the domains were registered to some non-existent adresses that followed a similar pattern so I figure they are either all owned by the same person or someone is selling some kind of "get rich on adsense" cookbook.

Now AdSense ads lets you report spam. So several months ago I systematically started reporting these junk sites to Google. What has Google done about them? You guess it, not a thing, they still exist and are probably still generatings some cents for Google and the site.

So much for "don't be evil". The only thing I can say is that I have not seen to many of these types of site high in the rankings. These says they seem to be dominated by price comparison sites!!!

Yeah, I find this exceedingly frustrating. I put a lot of effort into SEO, I don't spam or use black-hat tactics, I have actual content, and I'm increasing the number of high quality incoming links. And I can't understand why sites like the ones you mention aren't just kicked off Google immediately (at least after being reported).

    What century are you from?

    Just kidding about the subject...

But really when I read that post I thought- this is what I said 1.5 years ago. If you just realized these guys get high search rankings, trust me, you'll get over it.

Believe me, I agree they shouldn't rank high- but it's been a game of cat and mouse for years now between the black hatters and Google.

It's a lot better than it used to be. Google now has human editors that identify and penalize such sites, and you can report them yourself, which I'd suggest you do.

AdWords advertisers should bid lower for the content network (or even use a separate campaign for them) and can deal with things site by site if they like... it's called site exclusion: https://adwords.google.com/support/b...topic=0&type=f

I agree parcially. Yes, those #¨%#$ sites that push adsense in your face and have some useless text are very anoying, and Google doesn't seem to be caring much about them. But it´s not like you find them everywhere. Generally when you´re searching for phrases nobody talks about (but are popular) then you run the risk of all those results.

On your question: "Why?" the answer is simple. Some people use the holes in the search engine nets. This hole is simple to define: Target phrases that are popular but not competed for. Then you just have to build an optimized page and you pretty much get in the top 10. The difficulty here is of course figuring out what those popular (but low competition) phrases are.

If there is a formula for it and you know it, send me a PM,. :)

    Cheers,

    make $5000 a day

You can also make a site like credit repair http://www.badcredit-central.info./ and can make $5000 a day. Click cost is almost $4.00 per click.

all these kind of sites drives me crazy. They should be banned for PPC advertising or putting adsense on them.

Really, what century are you in? Not kidding. Not being rude either, but this is getting worse and a company in houston with a few million behind them are doing it as a business now.

So what you knew a year and a half ago about a few black hatters getting in under the radar doesn't even apply.

These guys are in business to build websites exactly like that and google is not punishing or taking down the websites that are doing it.

I wrote an article about it here recently. http://www.circleid.com/posts/parked...nonsense/#2145 and even whats his name that runs GoDaddy has been writing about it.

You're naive if you think it is a few balckhatters doing this and if you think google is trying to stop it.

    making me crazy too!!

we have a huge issue with this..
thousands of sites that use our CPC in the google adsense - and here are some things I have noticed...

-- reported them yes - google has done nothing
I even listed them to Matt Cutts site when he was talking about Big Daddy -- not a word back..
-- are they doing this as someone says with unpopular keywords - not on your life... this is rampant in the travel business for the most normal of kw's
-- and as others have mentioned they are registered to the same two businesses..

and I sit and wonder too how they can get away with it.. anyone know???

I read your article and I have to disagree somewhat with your finding, as to sites wanting to have junk content so users will click ads to leave.

Studies have shown users who see these junk sites usually leave via X in upper right corner.

Also as an Adsense publisher with several sites of all original content and earning over $1,000.00 per month in Adsense revenues... I can tell you that the long articles of original content that I have written or had done for me, and that lead to a large ad at the bottom of the article, convert the best out of all other forms of ad placement, sizes, and colors.

Another goal of Adsense publishers is to have people return to the website to find new information and click more ads..

    One & dones suck......

Report the sites as spam......Google being as large as they are have a back log few of us could imagine (or want to)... and work just like any other business trying to catch up....they do catch these sites and cease ad serving on them... it just takes time...

Took Google four months to catch me taking their content and using it on a site I own.

    Notes from the real world...

    Domain Kiting

I suspect you are seeing the results of what Bob Parsons (GoDaddy.com) has been complaining about for some time now.
