Revenue Magazine to Launch January 2004; New Publication from Montgomery Research, Inc. to Focus on Affiliate Marketing
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 29, 2003--Revenue, the first magazine focused on the fast-growing field of Internet affiliate marketing, will launch January 14th, Montgomery Research, Inc. announced today.
"We're very pleased to be launching Revenue to serve a growing audience at a time when many other business and technology magazines are struggling. We've found tremendous demand from affiliates, merchants and advertisers for this publication," said Publisher Nick Smith.
Revenue explores the strategies, technologies, designs and best-practices that help affiliates and merchants achieve success in affiliate marketing, a fast-growing area of e-commerce in which independent Web publishers, usually operating as small businesses, generate commissions by introducing consumers to the sites of larger merchants.
Thousands of affiliate programs involving over 1 million affiliates collectively generate more than $1 billion in revenue for merchants that include large retailers such as Target, Eddie Bauer, Blair Corp., Amazon.com and hundreds of other well-known corporations in the U.S. and around the world.
"We view affiliate marketing as an important stage in the growth of e-commerce that will benefit consumers and merchants with better Web content, higher ethical standards and competitive pricing," said Editor-in-Chief Tom Murphy, who leads an all-star team of business journalists, marketing experts, affiliates and industry practitioners.
Revenue will be available through major book and magazine dealers. It will also be sold through subscriptions, including those offered through the magazine's own affiliate marketing program.
AWESOME NEWS and a big boon to the industry. What do you think???
Jack, I have heard people are starting to receive their issues. Mine may be in my mail box, but I haven't had time to check the mail this week.
Just talked to my contact at Revenue. The fastest way to get the magazine is to subscribe. They will ship within 24 hours.
They are working with a newstand distributor and it will take around 2 weeks to get it out to all the locations which will include Barnes & Noble, Walden Books, airports, other major news stands and maybe even supermarkets.
I subscribed, too -- haven't seen or heard a thing.
I got my copy, nice to see it arrive in Thailand nice and fast :)
Here's my quick review :
Okay gave it a good read last night.
You can break the content down into
1. Affiliate Focused
2. Affiliate Manager Focused
3. Merchant insights
Like any magazine that aims to educate, if you know your stuff then there's less in it than if you're still getting into aff marketing for the first time. For Merchants I think there's a lot of quality advice that ultimately is good for everyone involved.
There is a section for some top affialites who offer some tips but looks more at how affiliate marketing changed their lives than how they really succeeded, other than offering the age old advice of "effort, patience and dedication" as well as some down to earh facts on how many people really succeed.
Good Article on site design with some tips from some of the bigger sites on the market.
Merchant articles really nail home some of the 'best practices' that have made some merchants succeed where others have failed, makes good reading for affiliates so you can see what kind of support to push for and expect from a good AM.
Interviews / reviews off some merchants Blair.com being one, a section on taxes (100% US focused) and small tech section about databases (very light)
Overall a good first issue I think, especially for anyone who isn't making serious money yet. I'll certainly be getting more issues.
I'm hoping to hook up a deal with them so we can get the subscriptions for partners working with us on our merchants, probably as a bonus scheme, just need to see how much they'll charge me for the volume I want.
So yes, I'd subscribe, 4 issues a year, next issue is about the "Bad Boys", so I imagine we can expect an interesting perspective presented from the likes of WhenU, EBates, 180 and other parasitic systems.
While there is nothing UK focused there is one small article on a German affiliate, living in the Canary Islands, and other than the section on taxes I think the content is good for UK affiliates too.
Lots of ads, first time I think that I have ever read, every Ad in a mag
And a quick break down of the articles for you :
News : Some news bites from the industry, mostly somewhat dated, as you'd expect from a quarterly mag.
Cap 1 : Article on search engines, page and a half, interesting, no real meat, lead in for future meaty articles
Chap 2 : Article on 5 people who make their living doing affiliate marketing, 'super affiliates'. Interesting in how they define how much work they put in to get the results they have today...and the money they make.
Chap 3 : Blair.com 3 pages on Blair the company, about their products their belief and support in affiliate marketing. Good read.
Chap 4 : Affiliates Foucs : Getting going, how to start. some good tips, 3 pages
Chap 5 : Inverview with Hebry from IAFMA, will be interesting to see who else gets interviewed here. Haiko and Shawn collins I would imagines, be interesting to see Ebates, WhenU and Gator too. 4 pages
Chap 6 :Merchant focus, marketing the program to affiliates, 3 pages
Chap 7 : Affiliate Focus , article on managing data and using it, 4 pages
Chap 8 : Parasites : View shallow look into the murky world of parasites and spam systems. 3 pages...hopefully we'll see deeper stuff later on.
Chap 9 : Merchant focus : reviews the potential non monetary costs, tasks and work of running and affiliate program, 3 pages.
Chap 10 : Affiliate Focus : review of site design from 4 community style affiliate sites, 3 pages
Chap 11 : Taxes, 100% US focus, 3 pages
Chap 12 : Affiliate Focus : Article on setting up in affiliate markering as a home business.
Chap 13 : Merchant Focus : Tips on how to run a quality affiliate program, 2 pages
Chap 14 : Affiliate Focus : How to select merchants to work with, too short I think, hopefully bigger aricles later on 1 pge
Chap 15 : 2 pages on the basics of databases and how they can be used on sites (nothing technical)
Chap 16 : For Merchants but should be read by affiliates too, ... , if you aren't getting the support and Respect listed in this article, then demand it
Thailand delivery before Florida delivery? @#$!
But thanks for the review/summary. ;)
Wow Chris, thanks for taking the time to post the long and in-depth review! Can't wait to get my copy.
