Click fraud on Google and Yahoo

I`ve been using both PPC systems in in site WWW.Bookingsonline.net.

At the yahoo system I had a lot of fraud clicks, about one or two page views per click and also tens of fraudulent bookings on my site, that with no exceptions had been canceled (The site permits free reservation and cancellation).

In this case I am convinced that the fraudulent clicks and bookings were done not only by the public, but olso by someone related to the yahoo. (I hope I am wrong).

In relation to the Google PPC system I am using the daily limit of 2 USD and in general it is working weel. I have about 10 page views per clik and 1 booking per 20 visiters. Some days it seems that I have fraudulent clicks, but it is not usual. The Google team seams to be working in a very professional way in relation to this issue and are begining to convince me to put some more money on it.

    Is that all ?

I thought that Google had a much higher level, that is they hav a miniumn PPC price and they expext a minimun number of visitors per Keyword which equates to a minimun price.

While Google's minimum price per click can be as low as 4 or 5 cents, typically you get nothing at that level of bidding. Unless, perhaps your category is not very competitive or you are using broad match - which means that any combination of your key words can be matched on.

    Bid levels and fraud

Genuine click fraud - that's an oxymoron for you - and bid levels are obviously linked. Why would anybody bother with clicks worth gross 4 cents?

Beware click fraud when you're paying higher cost per click. Steer clear of the content network if you're worried. Analyse your clicks on a regular basis. Complain immediately to Google or Yahoo.

    Minimizing Click Fraud

We are in agreement with dburdon. We bid for the #3 and #4 positions as the top 2 tend to get into bidding wars and the click fraud is much higer with the top most expensive positions.

The content network / Adsense definitely has the highest degree of click fraud. Unless there is a specific reason to use I would steer clear of the "content network". There are all kinds of scams exploiting the Adsense program.

Also make sure your ads are properly geo-targetted. If you don't plan on selling your products to China and Russia then make sure your ad is not showing up in those countries. We have seen alot of click fraud originate from those locations as well.

Remember it is about your ROI and not your EGO.

    Suspected click fraud

I'm seeing more and more suspected click fraud by the week.

In my opinion the two networks are desperate to play down the real extent of the problem.

A current case I'm pursuing is 14 clicks that came in on a single day for a usually inactive term. I can't see the landing of the clicks in the log or analytic files.
