Hi All,
I am interested to know how many keywords do you try to target for your website? I also would like to know can someone with limited number of pages target all the highly searched keywords? sounds like a silly Q - apologies.
thanks,
T

KeithO is keeping it more real than the bragging that is usually produced by a question like this. I was surprised not to see someone jump in here and say they use 100's of words. In fact they mean to say that they started with a few and then looked at their stats and DISCOVERED they were getting other phrases and keywords as well.Originally Posted by JuniorOnline
You will have to be creative and produce alternate things for your site.Originally Posted by JuniorOnline
You have a lot of options on how to do this. Write up an article using the other version of your word. Helpful hints or some type of REALISTIC subject matter that the visitor would genuinly be interested in. Don't try to fake it though. Your visitors arn't dumb. :)
I'm sure someone has other ideas for you.
Good Luck in all you do,

well.. we are selling 3 different products on the site..so for each one we choose between 5-10 keywords to target.. somehow I thought this could be little.. but thanks for the ideas posted here - they really helped to give me an idea where we stand.
I read that search engines will not crowl more than 200 characters for keywords and description.
the reason i asked, is I wanted to know if people continue making new pages to cover ALL the targetted keywords.. obviously this would be an endless task for a small business and the amount of time and money spent on it would not offer a high ROI.
If you are talking META tags, then they do stop off after 2XX characters. Not sure if its 200 or 255 but regardless, they are not used by Google so they don't serve as a cornerstone for a Google focused campaign. I typically only use them for yahoo campaigns.Originally Posted by mess483
JuniorOnline, do you have seperate pages for those 3 products?
I thought it was 255
I try to focus on 5 key phrases and then work on that, just because my site is found by non of them phrases (according to logs) that has nothing to do with it
Below 10 and I think your doing well, Also try changing them on pages
I was taught meta-wise to keep descriptions under 175 characters and keywords under 200 (or 23 words)
When I'm creating or optimising web pages, I always have 2-3 main key words or phrases in mind and then research those to come up with a few variations of those main key phrases, so ending up with about 5 per page in total.
Covering the main keywords on the home page and the more niche/specialised terms on the more informative pages.
Just my bob's worth. HTH.
I do Maximum 5 !!!Originally Posted by JuniorOnline
